Sultan Pahang urges Cameron Highlands farmers to adopt pesticide-free farming

In light of this, Al-Sultan Abdullah also suggested that the state government and the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry continue researching and introducing new methods in the modern agriculture sector.

CAMERON HIGHLANDS – The Sultan of Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has urged greenhouse operators and farmers in Cameron Highlands to adopt pesticide-free farming methods and avoid harmful chemicals.

He tithed that safer, modern and environmentally friendly agricultural practices are crucial to ensuring high-quality produce that is safe for consumption, while also preserving the environmental sustainability of the highlands.

"The Netherlands government, along with companies from the country, have shared extensive insights, technology and modern farming methods with Cameron Highlands farmers to improve the quality and productivity of local agricultural output.

"In fact, the modern agricultural approaches introduced — including smart technology and biological control methods — can help farmers reduce their reliance on pesticides and harmful chemicals," the Sultan said in a post on the Pahang Sultanate’s Facebook page on Saturday.

In light of this, Al-Sultan Abdullah also suggested that the state government and the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry continue researching and introducing new methods in the modern agriculture sector.

He emphasised that such steps are vital to building confidence among Pahang farmers to transition toward more sustainable and high-tech agricultural systems.

“These efforts are essential to ensure that crop yields are of higher quality, competitive, and capable of penetrating both domestic and international markets.

“This will concurrently strengthen the state's agricultural sector as one of the major contributors to the national economy,” the Sultan added.

Furthermore, he expressed hope that local farmers would fully utilise the knowledge, technology and expertise shared with them to ensure that the agricultural sector in Cameron Highlands continues to develop in a sustainable, modern and competitive manner.
