Karangkraf continues tradition, embraces the spirit of korban

SHAH ALAM – Karangkraf has continued its tradition by sacrificing seven cows in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration.

Karangkraf Media Group senior manager of special tasks Hashim Anang said the programme was revived following requests from staff, with the event carried out in a lively spirit of 'gotong-royong’.

“Staff who wished to perform the korban (animal sacrificial rites) contributed two cows, while the tradition continued with Karangkraf advisor Datuk Hussamuddin Yaacub donating three cows.

“We also received contributions from KDEB Waste Management (KDEB) and Northport (Malaysia) Berhad, each donating one cow for this year’s korban,” he said when met at the Karangkraf Korban Ceremony and Aidiladha Feast here on Thursday.

Also present were Hussamuddin; Karangkraf advisor Datuk Muhammad Nasir Hamzah; chairman Firdaus Hussamuddin; and executive director Akmal Eirfan Mohamed Fauzi.

The fire and rescue department was called in to help capture a sacrificial cow that had escaped at Karangkraf on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Hashim also recounted one of the challenges faced when a cow broke loose, prompting the fire and rescue department to step in and help capture it.

“We began slaughtering as early as 8.30am and one cow escaped, roaming around the approximately 21-acre area.

“The fire department was called in at the last minute to assist. That was among the challenges in carrying out the korban,” he said.

Hashim added that about 100 participants were involved, divided into several groups handling slaughtering, skinning, meat cutting and bone processing.

“We received support from representatives of sports houses, Karangkraf staff, Surau Hamiddean Bicycle Team19, Masjid Al-Ubudiah, KDEBWM as well as the Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG) of SMK Seksyen 19.

Karangkraf staff enjoyed the food served at the Karangkraf Korban and Aidiladha Feast on Thursday.

“Although the number was not very large, the ‘gotong-royong’ spirit was strongly felt and all tasks were completed smoothly through good cooperation,” he said.

He added that a total of 400 packs of korban meat were distributed to staff and those in need.
