KUALA LUMPUR – Pas is set to determine the direction of its cooperation with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) at a central committee meeting scheduled for next Monday.
Pas Central Committee member Tan Sri Annuar Musa said findings from discussions on the matter would be tabled at the meeting for further deliberation.
He said the meeting would examine follow-up actions arising from discussions held earlier by the party’s Majlis Syura Ulama.
“The meeting is still ongoing and discussions are focused on ummah unity and the importance of solidarity.
“The discussion is also paying close attention to divisions that have occurred and their impact on national politics.
“Whatever decisions and details emerge from the Majlis Syura Ulama meeting will be brought to the Pas Central Committee, which is expected to meet on Monday,” he said when met at the party headquarters here on Tuesday.
Also present were Pas deputy mursyidul am Datuk Ahmad Yakob, Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, Pas deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man and secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.
In a separate development, Annuar said the Majlis Syura Ulama meeting did not discuss the upcoming Johor state election following the dissolution of the state legislative assembly on Monday.
However, he said discussions on the matter would be held through a platform involving the Pas Central Daily Committee and the Pas Johor Daily Committee next week.
Previously, Sinar reported that relations between Pas and Bersatu had become strained again after Hadi announced that the party would review its cooperation with the Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin-led party over allegations that it had violated the spirit of camaraderie within Perikatan Nasional (PN).
The Marang member of parliament claimed the decision was made following a series of actions by Bersatu that Pas viewed as increasingly unsettling in recent months.
