JOHOR BAHRU - The teenage driver previously remanded in connection with reckless and dangerous driving that resulted in the deaths of four family members in Simpang Renggam near Kluang has been rearrested for a murder probe.

Kluang district police chief ACP Bahrin Mohd Noh said the 19-year-old was initially remanded for two days beginning June 2 before the remand was extended by one day until today for investigations under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

The suspect was granted police bail upon completion of the previous remand period, he said in a statement today.

An application to remand him under Section 302 of the Penal Code would be made at the Kluang Court tomorrow.

The teenager, who was driving a Mercedes-Benz A250, is suspected of driving recklessly alongside a BMW 530e driven by his 22-year-old brother, who succumbed to his injuries while on the way to hospital.

The accident is believed to have occurred when the BMW 530e lost control before veering into the opposite lane and colliding with a Perodua Alza, a Toyota Vios, a Proton Wira and another Mercedes-Benz. - BERNAMA
