SHAH ALAM – A wave of panic has gripped the higher education community in Selangor after back-to-back bomb threats forced the emergency evacuations of two prominent private universities within less than 24 hours.

The incidents have raised concern among students, parents and staff, particularly due to the close timing of the threats and the disruption caused to academic operations across the affected campuses.

When and where did the chaos unfold?

The first incident occurred on June 4 at Monash University Malaysia in Sunway City, where a bomb threat prompted immediate evacuation of students, staff and visitors.

Less than 24 hours later, on June 5, a similar threat was reported at Taylor’s University in Subang Jaya, leading to another large-scale evacuation at its Lakeside Campus.

Both incidents unfolded in densely populated education hubs in the Klang Valley, where multiple universities, commercial centres and residential areas are located in close proximity. This added to the scale of disruption, as emergency protocols were activated in busy urban environments.

“Following a comprehensive security check, the Subang Jaya District Police Station has confirmed that the situation is now all clear and the Sunway City campus is safe to resume normal operations today, 5 June,” the university said.

It added that one of its campus facilities would remain closed temporarily while further checks were conducted.

Similarly, Taylor’s University said that its emergency response procedures were activated immediately after the threat was received, leading to a full evacuation of the campus.

“Following a thorough security sweep, the Subang Jaya District Police have confirmed that the situation is all clear. Taylor’s Lakeside Campus is safe and normal operations may resume,” it said in a statement shared on Instagram.

Why did it cause so much concern?

The incidents triggered anxiety among students and parents, particularly as they occurred during a busy academic period, with many students preparing for examinations and final assessments.

The sudden evacuations and disruption to campus operations also heightened concerns over safety in educational institutions, especially given the close timing between the two threats.

Is there a link between the two incidents?

At this stage, authorities have not confirmed any connection between the bomb threats at Monash University Malaysia and Taylor’s University.

Investigations are ongoing, and police have not disclosed whether the cases are being treated as part of a coordinated effort or separate isolated incidents.

Both universities have urged the public to avoid speculation and to rely only on official updates issued by the institutions and relevant authorities as investigations continue.

For now, the incidents remain under police review, with further information expected once preliminary findings are completed.
