KANGAR - Perlis Pas Dewan Muslimat chief Husna Hashim has apologised to Perlis Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah after deciding to turn down her appointment as press secretary to the Menteri Besar, which was announced during the Perlis state assembly sitting on Friday.
In a video statement uploaded to TikTok, Husna said she greatly valued the trust and respect shown by Abu Bakar through the offer.
She said she had been aware of the appointment and understood the effort the Menteri Besar was making amid the state's still-turbulent political climate.
"I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to YAB for offering me this position. To me personally, it is an honour I truly cherish.
"I also understand that amid the rather heated and turbulent political situation in Perlis, this is among YAB's efforts to bring harmony to the situation.
"However, I wish to apologise to YAB as I am unable to accept the offer of appointment as press secretary to the Perlis Menteri Besar, for reasons I am not able to share here," she said.
She also expressed confidence that Abu Bakar remained focused on the people's welfare and the best interests of the state.
At the same time, Husna prayed that Abu Bakar's leadership and cooperation between Pas and Bersatu elected representatives in the state government would be eased and blessed.
"I always pray that the noble efforts YAB undertakes for the people of Perlis will be facilitated, and that YAB's leadership together with elected representatives from Bersatu and Pas will be blessed by Allah SWT," she said.
On Friday, Abu Bakar announced Husna's appointment as press secretary during the winding-up session of the Perlis state assembly sitting.
He also announced the appointment of Perlis Pas Dewan Ulama chief Ahmad Adnan Fadzil as Guar Sanji state seat coordinator, Kangar Pas deputy chairman Jamil Kamis as Bintong state seat coordinator and Padang Besar Pas Education Committee chairman Abdul Aziz Ahmad as Chuping state seat coordinator.
The appointments were made to fill unexpected vacancies at the three state seats following the political turmoil that has gripped the state over the past several months.
