Infant found abandoned inside Johor Bahru surau

Johor Bahru South District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat, stated that a report regarding the discovery of the baby was received at 2:40 PM from a 58-year-old local man who works as a driver.

JOHOR BAHRU – A baby boy was found abandoned inside a surau (prayer hall) in the Taman Daya area here on Sunday afternoon.

Johor Bahru South District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat, stated that a report regarding the discovery of the baby was received at 2:40 PM from a 58-year-old local man who works as a driver.

According to him, the witness found the infant when he arrived at the surau to perform prayers at around 12:00 PM. He then contacted the Setia Indah Police Station and Sultan Ismail Hospital for further action.

"Initial investigations reveal that the suspect is believed to be a local man in his 20s who left the baby near the surau's donation box," he said in a statement on Monday.

He added that a medical examination revealed the baby boy is in good, stable condition and did not sustain any injuries.

"The case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code, and efforts to track down the suspect are actively underway. Members of the public with information regarding the incident are urged to come forward and assist with the investigation.
