PARIT – A discipline teacher was reportedly injured after being punched by a group of students in an incident at a secondary school in Kuala Kangsar on Wednesday.
The incident, which occurred around 11:30 am, was allegedly triggered by the students' dissatisfaction after the teacher cut their hair.
Perak Education, Higher Education, Youth, and Sports Committee Chairman, Datuk Khairuddin Abu Hanipah, stated that his office is currently awaiting an official report from the Perak State Education Department (JPN) regarding the matter.
"I have not received any verified information yet and am still waiting for the report from JPN regarding the incident.
"If it is true, it is an highly inappropriate action because teachers are educators who nurture and guide our children," he told reporters on Thursday.
He added that further verification is being conducted to determine the authenticity of the incident before any official statement is released.
He also emphasized that students must respect teachers, even when faced with aspects of the learning process they might dislike.
"Manners and values must be placed higher than knowledge. Without manners, it is difficult to produce disciplined and visionary individuals," he said.
Earlier, Khairuddin officiated the Gen Alpha Hajj Simulation Educational Excellence Programme organized by the Department of Community Development (Kemas) in collaboration with Andalusia Travel and Tour at the Sultan Yussuf Izzuddin Shah Mosque here.
