NILAI - The Negeri Sembilan Road Transport Department (JPJ) will get a new RM140 million complex under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP).

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the new complex will be built on JPJ's existing Senawang site, after operations fully relocate to a temporary office at Era Walk Terminal 2 in Seremban, scheduled next year.

He said the existing building will be demolished for a more modern, user-friendly complex designed to meet current needs.

"This project has received budget approval under the 13MP and will be carried out by the Public Works Department. Our focus now is on getting the temporary office ready.

"Renovation will take about six to eight months before it is fully operational. It's spacious with plenty of parking, so I don't expect any public inconvenience or disruption to services," he told reporters after opening the JPJ Nilai branch today.

Also present were JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli and Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah.

Loke said the government will ensure every ringgit spent on development delivers maximum benefit to the people.

Regarding the new JPJ Nilai branch, he said it spans nearly 9,000 square feet, cost RM1.7 million to renovate and was completed in under six months before opening on Monday.

He said the branch also optimised existing buildings, operating from the Seremban City Council office space as a cost-saving measure over new construction.

"This branch will benefit some 120,000 residents in Nilai and surrounding areas, including Bangi, Putrajaya, Bandar Baru Sendayan, Salak Tinggi and Sepang.

"This new, more modern and customer-friendly JPJ concept will be gradually expanded to other branches, including the Bandar Tasik Selatan Integrated Transport Terminal, with digital facilities like self-service kiosks, more comfortable waiting areas and disabled-friendly access," he said.

He said the Nilai branch will have 24 staff members, redeployed from JPJ Seremban, while new positions will be applied for to meet long-term operational needs.

The JPJ Nilai branch is Negeri Sembilan's fourth, after Kuala Pilah, Jempol and UTC Ampangan. - BERNAMA
