SHAH ALAM - Federal Territories MCA Youth has questioned the authorities' handling of alleged illegal foreigner settlements in Segambut and Kampung Padang Balang, claiming the issue has remained unresolved for over a decade despite reported eviction notices and repeated complaints from residents.

Its chief, Mike Chong Yew Chuan, said the matter has once again come under public scrutiny following the circulation of a viral video allegedly showing a large-scale illegal foreigner settlement in Segambut.

According to Chong, the situation is particularly concerning because the area had allegedly been issued eviction notices by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) as early as 10 years ago.

“Hannah Yeoh, who has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Segambut since 2018 and previously held a portfolio related to the Federal Territories, should be aware of the existence of this long-standing problem.

“If DBKL had issued eviction notices a decade ago, it clearly shows that the settlement is not a new issue. Residents’ claims that their complaints did not receive proper attention also raise questions,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.

Chong argued that the continued existence of the settlement reflects shortcomings in governance and a lack of political will to address concerns repeatedly raised by local communities.

He also pointed to another video that recently gained traction online, which allegedly showed a similar illegal settlement in Kampung Padang Balang, Kuala Lumpur.

According to him, despite growing public discussion on social media about encroachment and illegal foreigner settlements, there has been no comprehensive public explanation or action plan announced by the authorities.

“No large-scale operation has been announced and no explanation has been provided that can ease the concerns of city residents.

“When they were in the opposition, accountability was often emphasised. However, when critical issues that directly affect Kuala Lumpur residents are raised, the action that is expected has yet to be seen,” he said.

Mike said unauthorised settlements raise concerns not only over safety and hygiene but also over their impact on law-abiding residents who are already dealing with increasing living costs.

He added that leadership roles involving the administration of the Federal Territories require decisiveness, proactive measures and the ability to resolve longstanding grassroots issues.

“If this illegal settlement crisis continues without a clear solution and residents’ complaints are not given due attention, the public has the right to judge for themselves the performance of the leadership entrusted with responsibility.

“Kuala Lumpur residents no longer want to hear excuses alone, they expect real and effective action,” he said.
