MELAKA - The Melaka Historic City Council (MBMB) has introduced a new programme, Jom Santai @ Dataran Bandaraya, which will be held on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month, starting this month.
Mayor Datuk Shadan Othman said the programme will feature various activities, including traditional games such as dam aji, open-air movie screenings, and busker performances, from 8 pm to 11 pm.
"Every weekend, especially on Saturday nights, we see no fewer than 500 visitors, particularly families, coming to Dataran Bandaraya MBMB to relax and enjoy their leisure time.
"As such, we have introduced the Jom Santai @ Dataran Bandaraya programme starting last week, with various activities to further liven up the area while benefiting visitors,” he told reporters here today.
He said this after the launch of ‘Santuni Petugas Pembersihan’ programme in conjunction with the MBMB-level Cleaners’ Day 2026 celebration, officiated by State Senior Exco for Housing, Local Government, Drainage, Climate Change and Disaster Management Datuk Rais Yasin.
Shadan said apart from recreational activities, the programme also serves as a platform to disseminate information on current initiatives implemented by the state government and MBMB.
"For example, information such as details on hawker licence renewal discounts, free rentals and parking discounts will be incorporated into the open-air movie screenings.
"Feedback received from visitors on this programme has been positive, as they are not only able to enjoy recreational activities but also obtain up-to-date information on current initiatives,” he said. - BERNAMA
