SETIU - The despicable act of a father who used his own daughter to satisfy his lust since the victim was six years old has finally come to light after the man was arrested by police on Saturday.
Setiu district police chief Superintendent Zahril Asri Mohd Zain said the arrest was made by a team from the Setiu District Police Headquarters (IPD) Criminal Investigation Department at about 6pm.
He said the suspect, a local man, was detained following a police report lodged by the victim on June 15.
"Police received a report from a 15-year-old teenage girl at about 3.54pm.
"The victim claimed that in the latest incident on May 29 at around noon, she and her younger sister were at home before being called by their father into a bedroom," he said in a statement on Sunday.
Zahril Asri said the suspect then committed a sexual act against the victim in the room.
He added that the suspect also warned the victim not to tell anyone about the incident.
"Initial investigations found that the despicable act is believed to have been committed by the suspect since the victim was six years old. As a result of the incident, the victim is now suffering from depression and trauma," he said.
He said a remand application under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC) was submitted before the Setiu Magistrate's Court yesterday (June 21).
"The court allowed the suspect to be remanded for seven days from June 21 to 27 to assist investigations under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code," he said.
