KAJANG - A man accused of assaulting his ex-wife in an incident that was recorded and went viral on social media has been arrested by police on Monday.
Kajang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof said the police received a report on the incident at 2.51pm on June 21.
He said the incident is believed to have occurred in a public parking area outside the Bandar Baru Bangi Police Station here.
"Following the report received, police also detected a video recording circulating on the Threads social media platform that is believed to depict the incident.
"Acting on the information and the results of investigations conducted, the Criminal Investigation Division of the Kajang District Police Headquarters (IPD) arrested a local man aged in his 20s at 6.20pm on June 22," he said in a statement on Monday.
Naazron said the suspect, who works as an e-hailing driver, is believed to be the victim's ex-husband.
"The suspect will be brought to the Bandar Baru Bangi Court on Tuesday to obtain a remand order to assist further investigations.
"The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code and Section 506 of the Penal Code," he said.
He said members of the public with information related to the incident are asked to contact the investigating officer, Inspector Afiq Rifdi Mohd Ami at 011-29667474, to assist the investigation.
Earlier, a video circulated on social media depicting an incident of a man allegedly assaulting his ex-wife.
