KUALA LUMPUR - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has congratulated Datuk Yasmeen Muhamad Shariff on her election as a member of the United Nations (UN) Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC) for the 2027-2031 term.

He said the achievement reflects the international community’s confidence in Malaysia’s role and commitment at the global level.

"Alhamdulillah. Congratulations to Datuk Yasmeen Muhamad Shariff and all at the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) on this highly commendable achievement,” he said in a Facebook post today.

He also expressed hope that the success would serve as a catalyst for Malaysia to further strengthen its efforts, elevate the nation’s standing, and achieve greater accomplishments on the international stage.

KPWKM announced yesterday that Yasmeen secured 136 votes from 189 States Parties present and voting during the 21st Meeting of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of the Child at the UN headquarters in New York on Tuesday.

"This marks the second time she has been elected to the committee, having previously served as a member for the 2013-2017 term,” said the ministry.

As a committee member, Yasmeen will serve in her personal capacity as an independent expert. - BERNAMA
