PAGOH - Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia will be contesting 16 seats in the upcoming Johor polls.
Its president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said all their candidates were carefully vetted and were not bankrupt, nor had police cases or unpaid taxes.
"All our candidates will also have to sign a declaration, which is a normal process in any election," Muhyiddin said during the unveiling of candidates here on Thursday (June 25).
At least two of the candidates are below 35 years old, with one woman, who is contesting in Johor Lama.
Two of the candidates are also a father and son team comprising former assemblyman Rasman Ithnin for Sedili and his son Mohamad Alias Rasman for Panti.
Incumbent Layang Layang assemblyman, Abd Mutalib Abd Rahim from Barisan Nasional, will be contesting the same seat under the Perikatan Nasional ticket.
The sole Chinese candidate will be contesting in the Stulang seat.
In 2022, Bersatu contested 37 seats and won two.
In his speech, Muhyiddin said that it was important for candidates to fight for issues such as the rising cost of living in Johor.
"What is the state government's strategy to ensure the people are able to increase their income in the next five to ten years?" he questioned during the unveiling of Perikatan Nasional candidates here.
He added that it was important to have new ideas to propel the state to the next level, similar to other developed countries such as those in Europe, Japan and Korea.
