SHAH ALAM — Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh has welcomed Pas’ directive instructing its members and supporters to vote for Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates in the State Legislative Assembly seats not contested by Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the upcoming 16th Johor state election.
He described the move as a positive development, noting that it sets a promising precedent starting in Johor.
“Thank you, Pas. InsyaAllah, we begin in Johor and will continue in other states. #tetapOnn,” he said in a brief social media post on Sunday.
Pas reportedly issued the directive, with its deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man quoted as saying he was confident that party members understood the vital need for penyatuan ummah (Muslim unity) and that PN serves as the vehicle for this unity.
Earlier, the number of seats contested by Pas in the Johor election was reduced to 11, compared to 15 seats in the previous state election.
PN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said the reduction in Pas-contested seats is not an issue, as the decision was made based on current considerations and the best strategic approach to face the election.
