SHAH ALAM - The management of a private college in Glenmarie allegedly failed to conduct a criminal background check on a staff member who was recently arrested for the suspected molestation and sodomy of two 15-year-old boys.
Shah Alam District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Sarudin Samah said initial checks revealed the suspect had been employed at the college for about two years.
According to Sarudin, preliminary information obtained from college staff indicated that the management did not review the suspect's criminal history during the recruitment process, leaving them unaware of his prior sexual offence records.
"Statements from the college management will be recorded to verify this matter and assist in the ongoing investigation.
"So far, police have recorded statements from two witnesses, namely the complainant and the suspect's father," he said in a statement on Sunday.
He added that statements from several other relevant witnesses were being arranged to complete the investigation.
"The suspect remains under remand, and the investigation is ongoing, including finalizing witness statements.
"In addition, police are securing digital evidence and medical reports before the investigation paper is referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further instructions," he said.
Sinar previously reported that a 42-year-old man was arrested after being suspected of molesting and sodomising two 15-year-old boys in separate incidents in Shah Alam.
Initial investigations also revealed that the suspect possessed a prior criminal record involving sexual offences.
The case is being investigated under Section 377C of the Penal Code and Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017
