KOTA TINGGI - Rather than relying on conventional election posters featuring slogans and party logos, Perikatan Nasional (PN) Panti candidate Mohamad Alias Rasman has taken a different approach in his campaign.
He is introducing himself to voters through a series of posters highlighting his personal background and biodata.
The 35-year-old lawyer said the strategy was intentionally designed to help voters get to know the person behind the candidate, particularly first-time voters who may be unfamiliar with him.
"Everyone puts up the usual election posters, so I wanted to do something different.
"I believe that before people decide whether to vote for someone, they want to know who that person is, not just what he promises," he told Sinar Daily.
Instead of placing all the information on a single poster, Alias said his campaign released multiple posters, with each highlighting a different aspect of his background, education and personal journey.
According to him, the idea was inspired by psychology, where repeated exposure helps improve memory retention.
"I'm also a lawyer and psychology is something we learn. In psychology, repetition helps people remember things better.
"So rather than putting everything on one poster, I introduced my biodata bit by bit through different posters. I believe people will remember me better this way," he said.
Alias believes the approach is especially relevant in Panti, where approximately 4,000 voters will be casting their ballots for the first time.
He said younger voters, particularly millennials and Generation Z, tend to appreciate campaigns that are more personal and relatable.
"I think this approach is attractive to millennials and Gen Z because it helps them get to know me better," he added.
Beyond introducing himself, Alias said the campaign aims to build familiarity and trust with voters before they evaluate the policies and pledges he is offering.
The Panti candidate said he hopes voters will eventually assess him based not only on his campaign promises but also on his background and ability to serve the constituency.
Alias, who previously contested the Johor Lama seat in the 2022 Johor state election, is among the youngest candidates contesting in the Johor election this year.
With polling day less than 48 hours away, he expressed optimism that his unconventional campaign strategy has helped increase his visibility among voters across the semi-urban constituency.
"I hope people now know who I am and what I want to bring to Panti," he said.
