PUTRAJAYA – The mother of Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, Sharifah Mahani Syed Abdul Aziz expressed hope that the decision by the three-member Federal Court panel would be in her son's favour.
Sharifah Mahani, who arrived at the court complex a few minutes after Syed Saddiq's fiancée Bella Astillah, appeared calm when approached by members of the media.
"Hopefully, Allah SWT will help him (Syed Saddiq) by granting him victory today," she said briefly when met here on Monday morning.
After a two-week delay, Syed Saddiq is set to finally learn the outcome of the prosecution's final appeal against his acquittal at the Federal Court here.
The appeal involves four charges of abetting criminal breach of trust, misappropriation of property and money laundering involving Bersatu's Armada funds between 2018 and 2020.
The country's highest court's decision will determine whether the 34-year-old politician remains free as the Muar MP or faces a conviction and a seven-year jail sentence, two strokes of the cane and a RM10 million fine.
The outcome will also mark a significant turning point in the political journey of the former Bersatu Armada chief.
Whether decided unanimously or by majority, the three-judge panel's decision will bring an end to a legal saga that has drawn public attention since the case began.
The decision, which was scheduled on June 30, was postponed after one of the three judges on the panel, Datuk Che Mohd Ruzima Ghazali, was unable to attend proceedings due to illness and was granted two days of medical leave.
