KUALA LUMPUR – Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi intends to meet Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming following his remarks on his willingness to resign from his position.

Ahmad Zahid said such a statement should not have been made by any Cabinet member in the Unity Government.

"I have no advice to give, but such statements must be appropriate because we meet every week during Cabinet meetings. If we were in the opposition, perhaps such a statement would be considered acceptable."

"But when we are part of the government together, there is no need to raise such matters... it's alright, I will meet him, he is my friend," he told reporters after attending the TVET@KKDW Contingent's Mandate Ceremony to the WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 competition here today.

At the same time, Ahmad Zahid said relations among Cabinet members in the Unity Government remain good.

He said all ministers and deputy ministers continue to carry out their responsibilities professionally in a conducive environment.

"We move as one team in the Unity Government, professionally," he said.

He also stressed that all leaders had pledged to remain together in the Unity Government until the end of its term.

According to him, the commitment continues to be upheld and relations between parties in the government remain positive despite various external perceptions.

"Public perception outside is one thing, but the reality is that we are in a very good position," he said.

Kor Ming was previously reported to have said he would resign if UMNO achieved a major victory in the Johor state election (PRN) and Datuk Seri Najib Razak was released.

The statement was made during the Johor state election campaign last week, before Barisan Nasional (BN) and UMNO secured a landslide victory by winning 48 out of 56 state seats.

However, Kor Ming clarified yesterday that his remarks had been misinterpreted and stressed that his stance was based on the principle of upholding the integrity of the country's judicial system.

He maintained that he would only resign as minister if Najib was released without serving an appropriate sentence despite having been convicted. – AWANI
