Pas vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah says global economic pressures from the Iran conflict and domestic political shifts could force an early snap general election by October or November.

KOTA BHARU - Current domestic political developments and global economic pressures arising from the conflict in Iran could increase the likelihood of the government calling the 16th General Election (GE16) early, says Pas vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah.

He said this includes the growing understanding between Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Barisan Nasional (BN), alongside shifting public support, which will impact the government's position.

"If these two situations persist and the government fails to make corrections over the next few months, I think it will have a massive impact on their position.

"Like it or not, the government will have to take the risk and call an election, possibly this October or November," he told reporters.

He also claimed that public dissatisfaction with the government is rising, based on recent political developments.

"You can see many reactions from the public towards the government, especially on social media, showing mostly dissatisfaction.

"If this continues, this situation will also affect the government's position in the next election," he said.

Commenting on the conflict in Iran, he noted that it is affecting global oil prices and the international economy.

"The situation unfolding in Iran will not be resolved by the end of the year.

"Oil prices will rise, the global economy will not move well, and businesses will also be affected, which will ultimately impact the nation's economy and put pressure on the government," he said.
