SHAH ALAM – Outrage has erupted on social media following reports of a severe case of animal cruelty involving an eight year old Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) cat named Hope.
The incident came to light after a social media user under the handle @pherbies posted an urgent plea for help on Threads, revealing that the toothless senior cat was discovered suffering from severe injuries around her hindquarters, including a torn and infected anal area.
According to the rescuer, Hope is an affectionate community cat known for her gentle temperament. She was immediately rushed to a veterinary clinic after being found in distress.
"Hope is a project TNR cat. She is eight years old, toothless, sweet, affectionate, and has never been sick before," the rescuer shared in a follow-up post.
Veterinary medical staff advised that Hope undergo a five-day warding period to facilitate daily wound management, deep cleaning and intensive care.
Previously, a medical quotation attached to the post showed initial medical expenses totaling RM255, alongside emergency consultation charges.
Following a swift response from compassionate netizens, the donation drive for Hope's medical expenses has officially been closed 2 hours after the post was made, as the required target to cover her emergency consultation, hospitalisation, and treatments was fully met.
The rescuer emphasized that all medical treatment and care protocols are being carefully coordinated with certified veterinarians and Hope's dedicated primary feeder.
The revelation of Hope's condition sent shockwaves through online communities, triggering a wave of emotional reactions and calls for swift action against animal abuse.
Many users expressed sheer heartbreak over the incident, with user @agnesvanora commenting, "Humanity failed you, poor baby."
Other netizens urged the rescuer to take legal and formal steps to ensure the perpetrator is held accountable.

In response to widespread public concern and calls for accountability, the rescuer confirmed plans to lodge an official police report regarding the suspected abuse.
Despite the horrific ordeal, Hope’s story offers a beacon of light as the rescuer revealed that a close friend has stepped forward to offer the senior cat a permanent home.
"Someone came forward to adopt Hope, a good friend of mine, after all is done and vetted, she will go to her forever home where she can feel safe," the user stated.
