BAHAU – Pakatan Harapan (PH) communications director Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil has urged voters to prioritise leaders with integrity and strong governance, citing the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Tabung Haji as a reminder of the importance of accountability in managing public institutions.

Speaking at the Ceramah Perdana Grand Finale at Pekan Rompin, here, Fahmi said the RCI report should be viewed based on its findings rather than political sentiment, while stressing that any alleged wrongdoing must be investigated through the proper channels.

He said the matter should be left to enforcement agencies including the police, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Bank Negara Malaysia and agencies under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act (AMLA) to determine whether any offences had taken place.

"We are not pointing fingers at any leader or candidate. The report has been released and we leave it to the authorities to conduct a full investigation. If anyone is found to have abused their power or taken what they should not have, they must face justice," he said.

Fahmi said the 211-page RCI report contained terms related to governance concerns, including "misappropriation", "creative accounting" and "corruption", while rejecting arguments that the absence of certain informal terms meant there were no issues highlighted.

He added that the issue should serve as a lesson for Malaysians to choose leaders who are committed to transparency and accountability.

"Why is it important to choose leaders who are anti-corruption, clean, efficient and trustworthy? We do not have to look far. Look at the RCI Tabung Haji report that was recently released," he said.

Fahmi also linked governance concerns surrounding Tabung Haji with previous controversies involving institutions such as Felda Global Ventures and 1Malaysia Development Berhad, saying strong leadership was needed to prevent similar issues from recurring.

He said voters should support leaders who could protect public institutions and ensure they were managed responsibly.

Polling for the Negeri Sembilan state election will take place on Saturday.
