BATU PAHAT - The Johor State Religious Department (JAINJ) detained a married man and a divorcee for alleged khalwat (close proximity) at a hotel here at 11.30pm on Friday.
JAINJ said in a statement that the man in his 30s and his partner in her 20s were detained during an anti-vice operation in the district.
According to the statement, the arrest also led to the discovery of two bottles of performance enhancers and a condom.
"Before the arrest was made, enforcement officers knocked on the hotel room door, which was opened 10 minutes later by a shirtless man wearing a towel.
"After introducing themselves, the enforcement team entered the room to conduct an inspection and found a woman hiding under a blanket on the bed," it said.
The woman, dressed in sleepwear, then sat up, with the couple appearing visibly shaken by the presence of the authorities.
"Further inspection led to the discovery of an unused condom under the blanket, which the man admitted to purchasing at a convenience store.
"Also found on the table were two different types of performance enhancers purchased online," the statement read.
The condom was seized as evidence for the Syariah Court.
"Interrogation revealed that the man is married, while the woman is a divorcee. Both work in this district," it added.
The statement further explained that the pair had travelled to the hotel in a car driven by the man and checked into the room at 10pm.
The couple will be charged under Section 27 of the Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment (Johor) 1997 for khalwat.
