PASIR MAS – A teacher allegedly caned a pupil's mother during a meeting at a school office here on Wednesday, after the woman questioned the teacher over an alleged incident in which he struck her child's head with a cane.
Pasir Mas police chief Assistant Commissioner Mazlan Hassan said the incident occurred at about 11.43am during a meeting between the pupil's mother and the teacher concerned to discuss the matter.
He said preliminary investigations found the woman had earlier received a complaint from her child that the pupil had been struck on the head with a cane by the suspect while at school.
"The complainant then informed the school and the headmaster arranged a face-to-face meeting to discuss the matter.
"The meeting between the suspect and the complainant was witnessed by the headmaster in the school office.
"However, during the discussion, the suspect suddenly raised his voice before striking the complainant on her right thigh with a cane," he said in a statement on Thursday.
Mazlan said the woman, who was frightened, then fled the scene, while the incident was also witnessed by the headmaster, who had not expected the suspect to act in such a manner.
He said police received a report from the complainant, a woman who is also the pupil's mother, on the same day.
"The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing hurt with a weapon.
"If convicted, the suspect faces up to ten years' imprisonment or a fine or whipping, or any two of these punishments," he said.
He said the suspect had been arrested and remanded for three days from Wednesday to Saturday to assist investigations.
He also advised members of the public not to act on emotion in ways that could cause injury to others.
