KOTA BHARU – Perikatan Nasional is set to decide on Bersatu’s position in the coalition at an upcoming meeting.

According to the Pas secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan the meeting, expected to be held in about two weeks, would discuss the status of existing component parties as well as the possibility of new parties joining the coalition.

“One of the agendas may be to look at the position of our component parties. Another is that there may be new parties that want to join Perikatan Nasional.

“The second is to discuss the position and status of the existing parties. We will decide,” he told reporters at a press conference after the 72nd Pas Annual Muktamar at Pusat Tarbiyah Islam Kelantan (Putik) here today.

Asked whether the meeting would determine whether Bersatu would leave or remain in PN, Takiyuddin said a decision would be made.

“Better late than never,” he said.

Takiyuddin’s remarks come as uncertainty continues over Bersatu’s position in PN, with the coalition previously saying the matter would be discussed after the Pas muktamar.

He said the upcoming meeting would also provide an opportunity for PN leaders to review the coalition’s future direction and the position of its component parties.

Meanwhile, Takiyuddin said Pas’ efforts to strengthen political cooperation with Umno and other parties would continue, particularly ahead of the Melaka state election.
