PUTRAJAYA – Pas has questioned Pakatan Harapan's (PH) reaction, which it described as "panicking", following claims by Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang about United States (US) interference in efforts to topple the Malaysian government before 2018.
Its information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said Hadi had only claimed there were US efforts to interfere in the country's political affairs, without linking any party from PH to the matter.
"The US Embassy in Malaysia has denied this. There is a legal avenue to resolve disputes between the two parties involved, namely a civil suit," he said in a Facebook post on Monday.
He added PH's apparent "panic" over the claim and the several police reports it has lodged was puzzling.
"What is their (PH's) interest in this issue? Why suddenly panic and make police reports? Did the Pas president link any party from PH to this issue? Not at all.
"So why are they panicking? Or do they actually have something to do with it?" Ahmad Fadhli asked.
Previously, Hadi, speaking at the party's Annual Muktamar, claimed a US representative had once offered assistance to Pas to topple the Barisan Nasional (BN) government before the 14th General Election (GE14).
He also claimed there was a meeting between Pas leaders and a US Embassy representative and alleged that a US ambassador had asked who the party would propose as its prime ministerial candidate should there be a change of government.
However, the US Embassy in Malaysia denied the claims and stressed that Washington had never tried to determine Malaysia's political leadership.
