KUALA NERUS - A man was detained after allegedly confining and abusing his wife and four sons at a house in Desa Mutiara, Jalan Gong Badak, here on Sunday.
The 36-year-old suspect's actions came to light after the victim managed to contact the MERS 999 line for police assistance.
Kuala Terengganu district police chief Assistant Commissioner Azli Mohd Noor said police received an emergency call about the incident before a team from the Gong Badak police station was dispatched to the location.
He said on arrival, police found a local woman and her four sons inside the house, with the door padlocked from outside.
"Police had to cut the padlock to open the door. Checks found the victim suffered an injury to her right eye, as well as pain in her head and left knee, after being beaten by the suspect.
"Initial investigations found the suspect acted out of jealousy towards his wife. This is the third police report made against him," he said here on Monday.
Azli said the suspect was later detained at the Gong Badak police station compound at 3pm the same day to assist investigations.
He said checks found the suspect had three past criminal records related to drug offences and vehicle theft, though a urine screening test came back negative.
"The man is now remanded for four days from Monday after a remand order was issued by the magistrate's court here.
"The case is being investigated under Section 324 and Section 326A of the Penal Code," he said.
