KUALA LUMPUR – “As a son, believe me... seeing a father go through a moment like this is not easy.”

That was the emotional message from Mohamed Khairul Azman Azeez, son of former Tabung Haji (TH) chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim, who claimed that his father is currently being detained at the Dang Wangi Police Station.

“Tomorrow, my father was supposed to step into the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court to face the charges that are to be brought against him.

“But tonight, my father is once again in custody, this time at the Dang Wangi Police Station, and is said to be remanded starting tomorrow,” he said in the post on Tuesday.

Media reports previously stated that former TH chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim would be charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on Wednesday under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009.

Based on checks with the court system, Abdul Azeez, who is also the former Baling MP, is scheduled to be charged before Judge Azura Alwi at 9am.

Mohamed Khairul Azman said his father was also supposed to be with his fellow comrades at the Umno General Assembly, but those plans had changed following the latest development.

He said he never expected to have to write about his father under such circumstances but knows the later was a strong person who chose to remain patient when facing insults and allegations.

“As a son, believe me, seeing a father go through a moment like this is not easy.

“There is sadness. There is fear. There is disappointment,” he said.

He added that the experience had taught him not to respond to injustice with hatred and not to retaliate against allegations with further allegations.

“I do not want to pre-empt the court process. I also do not want to judge anyone.

“I only hope for one thing, which is that this process will be carried out fairly, transparently and without prejudice. A charge is merely a charge until it is proven in court,” he said.

Mohamed Khairul Azman also urged the public to pray for his father to be given strength, peace and protection, and for all matters to be made easier.

“And most importantly, pray that the truth will eventually find its way because behind the person widely known as Azeez Rahim, he is a human being whom we, as a family, call Ata.

“And tonight, as a son, my heart is truly heavy and sad,” he said.
