Takiyuddin says government should clarify whether instructions or objections led to the postponement

SHAH ALAM – Pas has questioned the postponement of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s pardon application to a future Pardons Board meeting, saying it may have resulted from instructions or objections from certain parties.

Pas secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said the government should explain the matter to the public as it involved an issue of public interest.

“The postponement of Najib’s application before the Pardons Board did not happen on its own. There must have been instructions or objections from someone, whether a member of the Pardons Board or another interested party.

“Therefore, Pas calls on the government to explain the matter to the public as soon as possible, as this is an issue of public interest that the people have a right to know about,” he said in a statement on Monday.

Sinar Harian previously reported that Najib’s pardon application had been postponed to a future Pardons Board meeting.

The decision was made during the 63rd Pardons Board meeting for Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya, held at Istana Negara on Friday.

The Prime Minister’s Department’s Legal Affairs Division (BHEUU) said in a statement that Sultan Ibrahim had consented to the postponement of Najib’s pardon application.

Takiyuddin said Pas’s position was based on BHEUU’s statement issued last Friday at the 63rd Pardons Board meeting, which was chaired by Sultan Ibrahim.

“The statement said His Majesty had consented to the former Prime Minister’s pardon application being postponed to another Pardons Board meeting to be held at a later date,” he said.
