SHAH ALAM - The Najib Razak Solidarity Fund raised more than RM634,000 within the first three hours of its launch on Friday.
This was shared by Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki in a Facebook post.
He said the amount raised during that period reached RM634,562.02, with members of the public contributing according to their means.
"MasyaAllah! The first three hours since the Najib Razak Solidarity Fund was launched have already reached RM634,562.02.
"Many have contributed as little as RM10 and RM50," he said.
The fund was launched following the decision of the Federal Territories Pardons Board, which allowed Datuk Seri Najib Razak to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to payment of a RM50 million fine and other stipulated conditions.
Earlier, Umno took the initiative to launch a fund collection to help ease the burden on the former prime minister in settling the RM50 million fine.
Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the party hoped that all leaders, members and supporters, as well as those who wished to show their support, will contribute voluntarily.
Accordingly, Asyraf also shared Umno’s official account details for members of the public who wished to channel contributions to the fund.
