KLANG - Every millennial’s worst highway nightmare appeared to become a reality in Klang on Saturday when a load of steel piles fell from a lorry and struck a passing car.
The incident happened at about 4.25pm at the Jalan Kapar-Persiaran Hamzah Alang intersection, involving a lorry and a car.
Klang Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Ramsay Embol said the lorry, driven by a man in his 40s, was travelling from Jalan Kapar towards Meru.
“Preliminary investigations found that as the lorry was making a left turn, a technical problem occurred at the rear of the lorry, causing the load of steel piles to fall onto the road and hit the front right side of a car driven by a woman in her 40s,” he said in a statement on Sunday.
Thankfully, no injuries were reported in the incident.
The dramatic scene sparked a familiar fear among motorists, with videos of the incident circulating on social media and showing traffic congestion believed to have been caused by the lorry carrying the steel piles.
For anyone who has watched the Final Destination films, specifically the second movie with the highway scene where disaster begins when a massive steel chain snapping on a flatbed logging truck triggers a terrifying chain reaction.
Police said the case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, as well as Rules 94 and 170/59.
Members of the public with information about the incident are urged to contact Assistant Investigating Officer of the Klang Utara Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division, Sergeant Mohammad Mohd Kodin, at 011-23831459 to assist investigations.
