KUALA LUMPUR - Terengganu is expected to become a new venue for the equestrian endurance discipline at the 2027 Malaysia Sea Games, with the state government having formally expressed interest in hosting the events.
Malaysia Sea Games and Asean Para Games Organising Committee (MASOC) chief executive officer Datuk Abdul Rashid Yaakub said Terengganu’s extensive experience in staging international endurance competitions was another factor supporting the proposal.
However, he said the proposal was still under consideration, with several factors, including the venue’s readiness, needing to be assessed before a decision is made.
"There is no decision yet, but we expect the endurance discipline in equestrian to be held in Terengganu,” he told reporters after the announcement of a collaboration between MASOC and Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) 2026 here today.
The event was also attended by National Sports Council (NSC) Events and Sports Management Division director Safrushahar Mohd Yusoff and LTdL26 Secretariat chief operating officer Emir Abdul Jalal.
Abdul Rashid said Terengganu was not part of the four main clusters for the 2027 Sea Games, but its proposed venue had an advantage due to its international-standard facilities and experience.
"Terengganu has the best endurance track because they stage international endurance events at least three times a year.
"So their level of readiness in terms of event organisation is very high,” he said.
The four main clusters already designated for the 2027 Malaysia Sea Games are Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, Sarawak and Penang, while Langkawi has also been identified as the most suitable location for sailing events. - BERNAMA
