KLUANG – A married woman and a single man were detained on suspicion of committing khalwat at a house in the district in the early hours of Wednesday.
The Johor State Islamic Religious Department (JAINJ) said the raid was conducted at 1.40am following a tip-off from members of the public.
According to JAINJ, two male enforcement officers positioned themselves at the rear door of the house to prevent anyone from escaping.
“Officers spotted a woman outside the house wearing trousers and a T-shirt when they reached the front gate.
“They then entered the house and found another woman lying on a mattress and using her phone. She was dressed in a batik sarong and a long-sleeved top,” the department said in a statement.
During the inspection, officers found a room that was locked from the inside.
“The woman told officers that the room belonged to her mother, who was sleeping inside.
“After officers knocked on the door, it was opened about five minutes later by a woman wearing sleepwear.
“The room was pitch-black, so officers used torchlights and found a man on the bed,” it said.
JAINJ said questioning revealed that the 29-year-old man was single, originally from another state and working in the area, while the 44-year-old woman was employed locally.
“When asked about her husband, the woman said they had been living apart for more than a year. However, checks showed that they were still legally married,” JAINJ said.
“Officers also found that the duvet and bedsheets on the double bed were rumpled and rolled up,” the department said.
JAINJ added that the man had travelled to the house by motorcycle from his residence, about 10 kilometres away.
“Officers then inspected another room and found a man with his wife, who is the daughter of the 44-year-old woman.
“Those in the house appeared untroubled when their mother was detained with the man. They may have already known about the situation for some time and felt unable to do or say anything because she was their mother,” the department said.
According to JAINJ, the 44-year-old woman and the 29-year-old man will face charges under Section 27 of the Johor State Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment.
