MELAKA - Police have warned all candidates and political parties contesting the Melaka polls against raising issues involving religion, race and royalty (3R), spreading slander and causing public order disturbances throughout the campaigning period.

Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said these three matters must be given due attention to prevent any actions that could cause public concern.

He said the police's main focus was to ensure public order and safety throughout the election process.

"The most important thing is not to play up 3R issues, spread slander or touch on matters that could disrupt public order.

"These three matters must be observed to avoid causing public concern. Our focus is on public order and safety, while 3R issues and related matters will be referred to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for investigation," he said during a briefing on the Melaka polls at the Melaka police contingent headquarters on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Dzulkhairi said the police had yet to receive any applications for permits for Melaka polls campaign activities.

However, he said the police were ready to assist political parties and candidates in facilitating their permit applications.
