KUALA LUMPUR – The number of flood evacuees at temporary relief centres (PPS) in Kedah rose to 192 people from 71 families as of 8am today, up from 176 people from 66 families yesterday.
The State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat said all evacuees from Kampung Teroi Bukit and Kampung Titi Teras in Yan were housed at three PPS.
A total of 91 evacuees from 32 families were at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Teroi, while 36 people from 17 families were at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Pei Eng.
The remaining 65 evacuees from 22 families were housed at Dewan Lestari Guar Chempedak.
In Perlis, Dewan Batu 5 in Kangar remained open as a transit centre, housing 16 flood evacuees from seven families as of 8am today.
Perlis Civil Defence Force (APM) director Lt Col (PA) Mohd Izaimi Md Daud said the number of people affected by flash floods in Kampung Telok remained unchanged from yesterday evening, with floodwaters still stagnant in residential areas.
Bernama had previously quoted Mohd Izaimi as saying that the hall was opened at 1.50am last Monday, but no temporary relief centre (PPS) had been officially opened.
He said the state APM would continue monitoring the situation and officially open a PPS if the flooding worsened. –BERNAMA
