KUALA TERENGGANU - Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) needs to explain how it intends to use the Perikatan Nasional (PN) logo in the upcoming Melaka state election, PN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said.

The Terengganu Menteri Besar said the PN chairman was the person the Election Commission (EC) notified as the authorised signatory for using the coalition’s logo.

"So how does Bersatu intend to contest using the PN logo? You have to ask Bersatu how it plans to use the logo,” he told reporters after the Terengganu Biodiversity Seminar here today, while stressing that PN would continue to use its own logo in future elections.

Bersatu is embroiled in a dispute with the coalition following disagreements over its position within PN and a complaint lodged with the Registrar of Societies (RoS) over alleged exclusion from a coalition meeting.

On seat allocation negotiations, Ahmad Samsuri said the parties should uphold the basic principles they agreed on as they prepare for the Melaka state election and the next general election.

He said developments in Melaka were part of efforts to implement the basic principles discussed during earlier negotiations among the coalition’s component parties.

"We hope these basic principles can be carried forward into subsequent negotiations,” he said.

Ahmad Samsuri said the names of candidates from component parties intending to contest had been submitted, while the official announcement of candidates was scheduled for tomorrow night in Melaka.

On election preparations, he said meetings and discussions had been held between PN representatives and the component parties to coordinate their joint campaign efforts.

He said the cooperation model being implemented in Melaka was expected to be improved based on lessons learnt during the Negeri Sembilan state election in August. - BERNAMA
