MELAKA - The Election Commission of Malaysia (EC) will open 28 nomination centres on Oct 31, and nomination papers must be submitted at these centres between 9 am and 10 am
In a statement today, EC secretary Datuk Khairul Shahril Idrus announced that nomination papers must be submitted to the Returning Officer by the candidate, the proposer, and the seconder or by any two of them, or even by any one of them individually.
He also advised prospective candidates to complete the necessary forms and conduct a preliminary review with the Returning Officer’s office or the Melaka State Election Office prior to nomination day, and to settle the required deposit payment in advance.
"The receipt for the deposit payment must be brought along on nomination day as proof of payment,” he said.
Khairul Shahril added that prospective candidates representing a political party must submit a letter of authorisition permitting the use of that party’s symbol when filing their nomination papers.
He further reminded candidates who have paid the deposit for election campaign materials that they are subject to the Election Offences Act 1954 [Act 5] as well as the bylaws of the relevant Local Authorities (PBT).
"This includes prohibitions against the use of musical instruments or loudspeakers for political campaigning from vehicles, as well as loitering or remaining within 50 metres of the designated boundary on nomination day all of which constitute offences under Act 5,” he said.
Khairul Shahril also urged all prospective candidates and participating political parties to strictly adhere to the laws, regulations, codes of ethics, and directives issued by the Election Commission (EC), local authorities (PBT), and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), to ensure that the nomination process proceeds smoothly and effectively. - BERNAMA
