KLUANG – Several LED display screens around the town were hacked and used to show pornographic images and videos on Thursday, the Kluang Municipal Council (MPK) has confirmed.
Johor Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor said MPK switched off all the affected screens immediately to stop the indecent content from being shown to the public.
“MPK’s LED system was hacked, and MPK has taken immediate action by switching off all the LED screens,” he said when contacted.
In a statement, MPK said it viewed the incident very seriously and condemned it in the strongest possible terms.
It said a police report would be lodged to allow investigations to proceed, while it was working with the vendor to identify the cause, carry out recovery measures and strengthen the system’s security.
“MPK apologises for any inconvenience and concern that has arisen among the Kluang community following this incident,” the statement added.
MPK also warned that it would take legal action against any party trying to undermine and tarnish the local authority’s reputation and image.
The incident went viral on social media and WhatsApp groups after the screens were found displaying the content.
Among the affected locations reported were Dataran Tasik Kluang, Taman Intan in Kluang town and the area along the route towards Kahang.
Several residents who were in the town and lake area at the time witnessed the incident, sparking concern in the community.
Social media users broadly urged the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and take action against those responsible.
