Loss of shame is to the detriment of society - BN sec-gen

SHAH ALAM - Systemic corruption exist and has become part of the Malaysian lifestyle, says Barisan Nasional (BN) secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir.
The Pangkor state assemblyman said this was likely due to the current environment and system.
“Systemic corruption exist and has become a lifestyle for many. This environment has caused the people to no longer have a sense of shame and act immorally,” he said during a Special Forum titled Corruption and Hypocrisy in Malay-Muslim Politics organised by Sinar Harian and Emir Research on Thursday (Dec 16) night.
The forum revolved around the newly published book by academician Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dr Mohd Kamal Hassan titled “Corruption And Hypocrisy In Malay-Muslim Politics”.
Former Education minister Dr Maszlee Malik, former Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzukefly Ahmad and former Youth and Sports minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman were also present as guest panelist.
Zambry also highlighted what renown Muslim philosopher Ibn Khaldun said about the factors that led to the downfall of a civilisation and country.
He quoted Ibn Khaldun, saying that it happens when people are living in a state of lethargy and deep in pleasure.
