JOHOR BAHRU - Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim has lambasted Umno leaders who insist on the withdrawal of Employment Provident Fund (EPF), stating that such actions would only further jeopardize the future of EPF members.

He also reminded the Umno leader regarding the actions of the previous government, under Barisan Nasional, that almost ruin the Retirement Fund Incorporated (KWAP).

“If there is no 1MDB (1Malaysia Development Berhad) scandal, Malaysia will have the money to help the people who are affected by the floods as what is happening right now. Are Umno leaders aware of that?

“Previously, Umno leaders also almost ruined the retirement fund of the civil servants who were saving with KWAP.

“About RM4 billion pension money of the public sector employees were ‘borrowed’ by 1MDB. The money was all gone.

“The government is the one who has to carry the burden and pay for the money ,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.

According to Hassan, over RM101 billion of the EPF money has been withdrawn by the employees through i-Lestari, i-Sinar and i-Citra schemes that caused the depletion of their savings.

“Do Umno leaders know that about six million of the EPF members or 50 percent of them have a remaining balance of less than RM10,000 in their account?.

“The data and the statistics are not lying. Over 79 percent of the EPF members who have less than RM10,000 are Bumiputeras” he said.

Therefore, he urged for the money and the property that have been taken by some of the leaders to be exposed through Pandora Papers and return them back to Malaysians.

“If this can be done, then the employees do not have to withdraw the saving money for their future use in EPF, '' he said.
