Ford US sales drop 6.8 pct in 2021

CHICAGO, US - Ford Motor Co. announced on its website on Wednesday that it sold more than 1.9 million vehicles in the United States in 2021, down 6.8 percent year on year, as a result of chip shortage that has plagued auto industry worldwide.

To be specific, the Dearborn automaker sold 67,479 cars in 2021, down 65 percent year on year; 827,278 SUVs, up 10.4 percent; and more than one million trucks, down 8.2 percent.

In December, the U.S. automaker sold 173,740 vehicles in the United States, down 17.1 percent from December 2020; in the fourth quarter, the automaker sold 508,451 vehicles, up 26.8 percent from the previous quarter.

Ford took in 70,000 new vehicle retail orders in December, up 58,000 vehicles from a year ago.

Ford said that its electrified vehicle sales grew 36 percent faster than the segment overall in 2021, and achieved new sales records for December and the whole year of 2021. It sold a total of 12,284 electrified vehicles in December, up 121.1 percent from last year.

Ford begins 2022 with 247,000 vehicles in stock, up 22,000 from November and the best stock position in the industry, the U.S. automaker said. - Xinhua
