SHAH ALAM -- Anti-corruption movement Rasuah Busters have urged the Anti-Corruption Advisory Board (ACAB) to be more transparent in their probe against alleged impropriety by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki.

In a statement today, Rasuah Buster chief secretariat Nurhayati Nordin also urged the ACAB to probe Azam further.

Despite the ACAB's attempt to explain their actions to exonerate Azam of any alleged wrongdoing, the personal controversy had done nothing to allay concerns and questions of integrity posed against the anti-graft body, whose reputation has been tarnished recently due to the actions of several of its officers, said Nurhayati.

"Although the ACAB has appeared to clarify the crisis at the highest leadership of MACC, the answers provided invite more questions to the rakyat. The inadequate investigation by the ACAB has given the perception that the MACC has failed to function independently,

"Therefore, Rasuah Busters together with the rakyat urge the body to be more transparent in detailing and furthering the investigation into his statements related to the issue involving Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki.,'' she said.

Nurhayati also stated that the anti-corruption movement maintained their request that Azam must take leave so that the MACC can focus on restorative efforts as well as carry out their function to deter corruption effectively.

As a respected professional body, MACC must be independent and personal interest should not supersede this interest, said Nurhayati.

In the statement, Nurhayati also called on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri as well as Parliamentarians to do their part and restore the rakyat's trust in MACC as a professional body.
