SHAH ALAM: The Rasuah Busters has urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to immediately embark on a structural reform to ensure the credibility and integrity of the government.

The demand was made by Kumpulan Karangkraf chairman Datuk Hussamuddin Yaacub who is spearheading the anti-graft movement together with six non-governmental organisations namely Bersih 2.0, the Malaysian Coalition for Action (GBM), Centre to Combat Corruption (C4), Transparency International Malaysia (TI-M), Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (IDEAS) and Undi 18.

Hussamuddin said a holistic reform is important to ensure the independence of the anti-graft body.

He said instead of merely focusing on the case of the agency's embattled chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki, people should focus on the bigger issue which is corruption itself.

"We would like to take this opportunity to set this case as a momentum to bring awareness to Malaysians.

"If such problems exist in the anti-graft body, it means that we have a great problem in the system. So we want to get rid of this," he said in a press conference at the Kumpulan Karangkraf studio, here, today.

He reminded Malaysians to not be too obsessed with Azam's case as the law would deal with it and to move on to figure out ways to eliminate corruption.

To do this, Hussamuddin said, reforms needed to be initiated.

"I think if we focus on only one problem and not the root of the problem, we will all be in trouble. That is why we need reforms.

"All we want is an MACC that is credible, that can resolve this problem so that corruption would no longer exist in this country," he said.
