SHAH ALAM - “Najib may not have understood the language I used. When I said Umno did not name a candidate for the Sabah Chief Minister (CM) post until the end of the campaign, that was a fact,” said Perikatan National (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

He chided Datuk Seri Najib Razak for his statement that the former had planned from the start to name Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor as CM.

Muhyiddin said it was illogical for him to wait until the campaign was over before naming a candidate.

“When I announced Hajiji’s name as a PN candidate for the Sulaman state seat, I was suggesting that if our friends in PN, Barisan Nasional (BN) and others agreed, Hajiji would be the best to offer as a candidate to lead Sabah.

"I repeat, I was just suggesting it, in case our allies agreed to it.

“I put it prudently. If Najib could not understand my language, what can I do about it?,” he said in a Facebook post on Friday.

Previously, Najib had in a statement refuting an earlier post by Muhyiddin, said the latter had planned to name Hajiji as a CM candidate all along.

On Wednesday, Muhyiddin had in a Facebook post asked Umno President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to submit a name of a potential CM from the party, but the latter did not give any names until the end of the campaign period.

Muhyiddin then named Hajiji as a candidate for the CM post if PN had won the largest number of seats among the parties that make up the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).
