Babysitter held after baby hurt in nursery

SHAH ALAM - A 26-year old woman was arrested on suspicion of causing bodily harm on a 10-month old baby girl at a day care centre, in Bentong, Pahang.

Bentong police chief Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar said the arrest was made at about 12.30am, on Friday (Feb 10).

He said initial investigations revealed that the suspect who was a babysitter had on Tuesday (Feb 8) pulled the baby’s ear causing the victim to sustain injuries on the left side of her ear.

The victim was then rushed to the hospital for further treatment.

Zaiham said the police also found that the day care centre was not registered with the Social Welfare Department (JKM).

The woman, he said has been remanded for four days until Feb 14.

“The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.

“The offence provides for a maximum 20-year jail term or RM50,000 fine or both, upon conviction,” he said.
