LOS ANGELES – Old school hip-hop reigned supreme at the Super Bowl Halftime Show in SoFi Stadium where legendary rappers like Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar and R&B queen Mary J. Blige took centre stage.

It also marked the first time the halftime show featured hip-hop artists as its main performers.

The hip-hop elites showed the young ones how it’s done, delivering an impressive performance of their iconic hits.

Snoop Dogg and Dr Dre kicked things off with “The Next Episode” before upping the tempo with “California Love”.

Then, rapper 50 Cent made a surprise cameo, performing “In Da Club” upside down from a pull up bar, just like he did in his music video back in 2009.

Fans were sent into a frenzy when the queen of R&B and hip-hop Mary J. Blige took over, gracing the audience with her powerful vocals for “Family Affair”, followed by “No More Drama”.

Meanwhile Kendrick Lamar who is regarded as one of the best modern-day rappers of his era kicked things up a notch with his track “Alright” accompanied by an impressive choreography.

But it’s safe to say – the crowd lost it when Eminem showed up on stage to perform “Lose Yourself”.

Then, in a move that left people buzzing on social media – Eminem kneeled down on stage while Dr Dre played the piano next to him towards the end of the halftime show.

Apparently, the move was to stand in solidarity with Colin Kaepernick, who stood against police brutality and racial violence against black Americans.

The annual Super Bowl is the championship game of the National Football League (NFL) between the American Football Conference (AFC) Champion and the National Football Conference (NFC) Champion, and has been held every year since January of 1967 in the United States.
