SIK: Putrajaya will set up a new department to tackle inheritance issues and to clear backlog cases amounting to 72,348.

Energy and Natural Resources minister, Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said the Civil Defence Force department (JPA) will look into the implementation.

“We want to establish a stand alone department with its own director and personnels. We are currently in the process of establishing it,” he said at the Kedah State Level Inheritance Case Arrears Settlement Clinic launch, here.

Takiyuddin added the amendments of Small Estates (Distribution) Act 1955 [Act 98] approved by the Cabinet on Dec 22 increased the amount of distribution of inheritance from RM2 million to RM5 million, the move is in line with the increasing price of properties.

The new department, he said will help to resolve the complexities surrounding inheritance distribution.
