Covid home care kits for the underprivileged
SHAH ALAM - As Malaysia continues to fight the pandemic mostly at home, the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) has set up an initiative called #CovidHomeCareKits to distribute 9,000 home care kits to underprivileged patients undergoing home quarantine.
The kits are meant to support Covid-19 positive patients from marginalised groups such as migrants, Orang Asli and the B40 community, with resources to ensure proper care at home.
Each home care kit is equipped with a thermometer, oximeter, basic medicine such as paracetamol, lozenges, oral rehydration salts, hand sanitisers, RTK-Antigen self-test kit as well as masks.
The kit also comes with a deck of notes, which explains what to do during quarantine and how to utilize the items provided.
MRCS secretary general Hakim Hamzah said as the nation transitions towards an endemic phase, we must make sure no one is left behind.
“While most of us have the knowledge and ability to take care of ourselves physically, mentally, and emotionally during home quarantines, the underprivileged and vulnerable communities need extra support in learning how to protect and prevent the worst, if they contract Covid-19,” he said.
The kits will be available at MRCS centres across nine states; Klang Valley, Kelantan, Penang, Kedah, Johor, Melaka, Pahang, Sabah and Sarawak.
The public may opt for delivery or pick-up at the listed locations while Covid-19 patients will receive theirs via delivery.
The #CovidHomeCare kit was first disseminated during the flood relief efforts to ensure victims were able to monitor their symptoms efficiently and prepare themselves for any Covid-19 outbreak.
