RAWANG - More than 50 houses in the surrounding area were affected by the flash floods that hit on Monday afternoon.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) director, Norazam Khamis said, four areas were hit by flash floods here, namely in Kampung Gombak, Kampung Melayu Seri Kundang and Kampung Sungai Serai.

According to him, an emergency call was received by his department at 3.34pm in Kampung Gombak and a total of nine officers of different ranks were rushed to the scene.

“Flash floods were caused by water from higher altitude descending into nearby residential areas and involving three houses.

"The water at a depth of 0.3 meters did not enter the residence and was found to be receding," he said in a report on Monday.

In the meantime, Norazam also informed that no victims are reported to be involved in the flash flood and there is no evacuation process to be done as of now.

In another development, flash floods also hit Bandar Baru Sungai Buloh, Sungai Buloh on the same day.

One of the residents here, Farhana Mohamad Zabri, 35, said the water at her housing area started to rise around 3pm after heavy rain for 30 minutes.

She said the flash floods were heavier than last January due to the overflow of water from the nearby drainage.

"The depth of the water this time is not high, it is only 0.2 meters, but the water flow is very heavy compared to last January.

"The water did not enter the house and no items were damaged," she told Sinar Harian on Monday.

On Sunday, Norazam also informed that several residential areas in Meru, Klang were hit by flash floods due to non-stop rain on Sunday afternoon.

He said the incident was reported in Taman Seri Meru, Jalan Teratai, Jalan Kenangan, Pekan Meru and Taman Meru 3 here.
